Paddle Canada Sea Kayaking Level 1 Skills Instructor

This is a five day intensive program.  Time will be devoted to lesson planning, components of good teaching practice and theory, and lots of hands on teaching. Students will be evaluated on their hard paddling skills and teaching ability.  Presentation quality skills will be essential by the end of the program.  Opportunities will be provided to teach real students in real classes during the course.  Evening work will be necessary.

Upon successful completion of the Instructor Level 1 course, the Instructor may administer and instruct the Basic Kayaking Course and the Sea Kayaking Level I Course in accordance with Paddle Canada policies and standards and in compliance with all laws governing such activities and also be able to administer Sea Kayaking programs to individuals on calm, sheltered water.  A Level 1 instructor is expected to promote the Paddle Canada Sea Kayaking Program.  A lower level of Basic Instructor may be awarded if the candidate does not meet all  the criteria at the end of the course.  Candidates have one year to complete any conditions given to upgrade their status.

Camping accommodations may be provided on-site.  Participants are responsible for their own meals and food prep.

Fees do not include Paddle Canada yearly membership fee of $95.00.

Interested participants can contact Horizons for more information.
