Paddle Canada Level-4 on the West Coast

For experienced paddlers, this duel location course will find the best (and worst) conditions to test your ability and provide the skills and knowledge required for sea kayak multi-day trips along an open coast with rough conditions. We will cover many aspects of group leadership and advanced rescue techniques.

Based from Discovery Island Lodge; the first 2 days will be at Surge Narrow on Quadra Island where participants will be able to test their skills in current. The course will then move to the West Coast of Vancouver Island which will include a surf session and a three night camping trip including a bivouac.

Participants must demonstrate a high level of ability and control of their kayak in all conditions. Leadership in trip planning and rescues must demonstrate the ability to adapt to different situations; effective and reliable rescues are crucial to success at Level-4. A written test will include knowledge of navigation, weather and general seamanship. Written or oral navigation and trip planning exercises may also form part of the assessment.

Prerequisites: Paddle Canada Level-3 Skills

Instructors: Dave Nichols, Rick Wise

Register through Blue Dog Kayaking.
