How and What to Pack on your next Horizons Adventure

Written by Rick Wise and posted on April 4, 2021.

One of the biggest challenges for all our new customers is the concept of what to bring and how to pack it. Some of you are used to “Canoe Camping” or “Car Camping”.  Others have experience Back Packing and still others have no experience at all.  Guess which one of these has the edge when it comes to Sea Kayak Camping?  Surprisingly, the Back Packers have the closest relatable experience to camping out of a sea kayak.  The reason for this is the concept of size and to a lesser degree, weight.   Back packers are experts with both these concepts.  Once you’ve had to carry something around on your back for a few days and fit it into a small, but organized space, you quickly learn the nuance of efficiency in this department.   If you’ve registered for one of our trips you’ll receive an information package to help you get ready.  Still, we find there is more to learn before you arrive.  Customers have trouble deciding on the size and type of sleeping bag and sleeping pad; how many clothes to bring and shoes to wear. We don’t want to repeat what we’ve put into the information package but we’ve posted some helpful tips on the video below as well as some pictures here to help you along with this challenge.   Please give us feedback on this page and it’s contents so we can improve it.
